Public Land Management

The Morris County Department of Planning & Development is pleased to announce the release of a free, internet-based Public Land Management application. We are seeking your participation in selecting key representative(s) to use this application to update your public land inventory. This interactive mapping application is a clearinghouse of publicly owned and managed land data that is both accessed and edited through the “web”. The secure application provides numerous mapping and reporting capabilities, including the ability to prepare a Green Acres Recreation and Open Space Inventory (ROSI) document or your 2011 County Open Space Trust Fund application at no cost.

The application empowers public land stewards (towns/county/non-profits land trusts) to make more informed decisions regarding: which lands to target for acquisition; tracking the status of pending acquisitions and discussions with landowners; inventorying the natural resources for an individual parcel or an entire park; prepare a Green Acres Project Reference Map with a few clicks of the mouse.

Benefits of the application include:

  • No need for expensive GIS software, software administration, or specialized GIS training.
  • Edits and maintenance can be done by any town official or volunteer.
  • Your land record data can be retrieved simply and instantly, from any computer or device connected to the internet. View it live during open space committee meetings.
  • All other agencies public lands can be viewed so that regional planning can be realized more efficiently.

Built into the application is a thorough system of permissions and security that are tied to county, municipal and non-profit agencies. As such, agencies electing to participate in the maintenance of land record data will be required to register asland record managers. We need your assistance in selecting key representative(s) to use this application to update your public land inventory. Numerous application functions are planned including a public interface consisting of a series of high quality park maps and reports derived from the data you create.

On June 7th, 2011, the Morris County Department of Planning & Development will be hosting a registration and training event for the MCPRIMA Public Land Management Theme. Please join us and/or have your representative join us to learn how to use the application.
